Small Lindon Software Company Aquired

Grace Leong - The Daily Herald

A small Lindon technology company is being acquired by The Active Network, a San Diego provider of corporate event management software for sports groups, in a stock and cash deal, company officials announced Monday. Details of the deal weren't disclosed.

WingateWeb, a Lindon provider of corporate event management software to companies in information technology, medical and financial industries, has 85 workers in Lindon. All of them will be retained under new ownership, and the company will continue to operate under its existing name.

The Lindon company's acquisition, along with that of two other technology companies, RegOnline of Boulder, Colo., and Thriva LLC, are aimed at helping Active become one of the largest providers of software that helps streamline online event registration and operations of companies, associations and independent event planners.

Sorenson amasses $400M, what some say is largest closing of its kind in state
Paul Beebe, The Salt Lake Tribune

Sorenson Capital Partners has raised what some believe is the biggest pool of investment dollars ever amassed by a Utah private-equity firm.

The Lehi-based company accumulated $400 million between mid-September and the middle of December from more than 30 investors in Europe and the United States, outstripping the $250 million it raised for another Sorenson investment fund in 2004.

Utah's Business Climate Grabs Top Spot
Lesley Mitchell, The Salt Lake Tribune

It doesn't get much better than this for economic developers trying to market Utah as a site for corporate expansion.

On consecutive days, two separate organizations have named Utah No. 1 among all states in "economic competitiveness" - a catch-all phrase that measures the quality of a state's business climate.
On Tuesday, the Governor's Office of Economic Development learned that Utah was ranked No. 1 in the State Economic Competitiveness Index compiled by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a group made up of state legislators.

Rx Costs Fuel a 6.7% Rise in Americans' Health-Care Tab
Kevin Freking, Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Seniors and the disabled flocked to the pharmacy counter in 2006 with their new Medicare drug cards, fueling a 6.7 percent increase in health spending, the federal government reported Monday.

In most other areas of health care, there was a welcome slowdown in spending. It still cost more to go to the hospital or doctor, but the increase was not as great as in the previous year.
